As explained in section III – “RATIONALE», the 3,300 MW ‘MONT-NEGRE’ REVERSIBLE PUMPED STORAGE HYDROELECTRIC PLANT ON THE SEGRE RIVER (TOWNSHIP OF MEQUINENZA-ZARAGOZA), as a pure pumped storage plant, is the only proven technology that is able to guarantee security of supply and system sustainability. In addition, the storage capability of the plant, also contributes to provide a quasi-immediate response to electricity demand fluctuation thus increasing the technical resilience of the grid and the electric system in which the plant operates.
The 3.300 MW of installed capacity of the Mont-Negre plant will surpass the 2,850 MW of installed capacity of the Lewiston/Niagara Power Plant (USA). Mont Negre will help project to the World the unparalleled leadership and commitment of the European Union to renewable energies and a sustainable future for generations to come.
